Horizon Academy

Students must meet eligibility guidelines to be accepted into Horizon Academy. Generally speaking, seniors and juniors who are at risk of not graduating on time are granted priority.  Although credit recovery is the primary path for entering Horizon Academy, each applicant is considered on an individual basis.  Special consideration is given to students who have extenuating circumstances which put them at risk of dropping out.  Students with extensive disciplinary records and attendance issues are not considered for acceptance.

All students wishing to apply must request an application from their high school counselor.  The counselor, along with high school administrators, will review all applications and prioritize them based on need.  If the campus-based application committee determines the applicant would benefit from an alternative learning setting, the committee will submit the approved application to the high school principal. The principal will review the application and contact the student for an interview, if accepted.

Horizon Academy is considered a campus in the public school district of Brownsboro ISD; it is provided atno cost(other than personal school supplies) to the student.

Students in Horizon Academy complete their courses via Edgenuity, an online instruction/course program.  Once a student fulfills all the requirements for that course, they earn credit.

The BISD Horizon Academy is housed on campus at Brownsboro High School. 

Horizon Academy students may either ride the bus or drive their own vehicle to school. Students must provide a copy of their driver license and proof of insurance to the office in order to receive a permit to park in a designated area.  School hours are from 7:53 am until 3:45 pm.
